Hi,

I have a Elitebook 8560p and I am trying to resolve an issue with the serial port. The error I get is.

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.

I have looked all over for a driver on hp.com and cannot find anything that relates to serials ports. What is the correct driver for this computer to resolve this issue?

I installed that driver and I am still getting the following error:

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.

To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.

I am wondering if there are any steps that I am missing. After installing the driver do I have to use the 'update driver' option to choose the driver? The window still says driver provider is unknown.

Interesting..That should be the driver you need, and I got it right from your notebook's support page.

Try manually installing the driver as follows..

Go to the device manager and click on the PCI serial port needing the driver.

Click on the driver tab. Click on Update driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file.

That folder will be located in C:SWSetupsp55757.

Make sure the Include subfolders box is checked and hopefully the driver will install.

If not, try the older version listed on your notebook's support page..auto and manual install.

This is very weird. I get the same error when installing both of the ones mentioned manually:

Windows was unable to install your PCI Serial Port

Windows could not find driver software for your device.

Do you have any other suggestions to fix this issue? Sorry

Please post the hardware ID for the PCI Serial Port.

To find the hardware ID, click on the PCI Serial Port in the device manager.

Then click on the details tab at the top of the PCI Serial Port Window.

Now you will see a Property drop down list, and it will be set to Device Description.

Drop down on that list, and select the 2nd item (Hardware ID's).

Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.

I have almost the same problem, but I am running Windows 10 pro on my HP Compaq 8200 Elite Convertible Minitower PC. The device manager has under OTHER DEVICES : the triangle with the excimation point Next to that it states : PCI SERIAL PORT. I tried to update the drivers and that didn't work. It said it could not find anything online. Next I went to each of the processors (quad core) and tried to update them. They said they were up to date. Buku online gratis. So anyone have any other ideas? They only cover up to win 8 64 bit in the drivers area.

OK..

Here's what I think the problem is..I have 2 8200 Elite CMT's running W10 so I know that is the driver you need.

But..Windows 10 must have installed the driver for the Intel Management Engine Interface (IMEI) and the driver I posted contains both the driver for the IMEI and the PCI Serial Port.

So, when you ran the driver, the 'gatekeeper' says you are trying to install an older driver for the IMEI and quits.

Go to the device manager and click on the PCI Serial Port needing the driver.

Click on the driver tab. Click on Update Driver.

This worked this time. Thank you for your help. Amusing story. This exact same computer was listed online for $1,325.93 + s/h out of some company called compsource. I bought mine with a slightly smaller Hdd for $180.00. Question Which area would be best to post in for questions about the max hardware specs for this computer?

That item probably was 'new old stock' -- the computer has never been unboxed and used -- literally sitting on a shelf, gathering dust, for many years.

The point is that some computer programs that were created for a specific purpose, e.g., to control an electronic microscope, had EXTREMELY STRICT specifications on what hardware works with that vendor's 'process-control' software.

So, when such a computer 'dies', the client who bought the package from that vendor needs an *IDENTICAL* replacement computer, not something 'about' the same. So, companies like that COMPUSOURCE are there, to provide what the client *NEEDS* to purchase.

The price reflects the original price of the hardware, plus 'storage-costs' for many years.
